Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth
London (1 mile away)
Compliant Venues Ltd believes that the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth aligns to the metric applied to our GREEN assessment status.
General Positioning: The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth is an easily accessible central London hotel located on Great Russell Street in a quieter outskirt of the famous west end area of London, opposite the sister hotel Bloomsbury Street. The closest underground tube station is Tottenham Court Road which is only a 5-minute walk from the venue, and is a 15- minute taxi ride from London St Pancras, Eurostar, Kings Cross, Euston and Marylebone stations. Tottenham Court Road tube station is on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern Line and the Central Line which ensures easy access to all areas in London. The area of Bloomsbury in which the hotel is located, is well known for its literary connections, garden squares and numerous cultural, educational and some healthcare institutions. The hotel has 186 bedrooms and 8 small to medium size meeting rooms, the largest is the Private Room 11 & 12 and combined accommodates up to 64 cabaret/110 theatre style. This 4-star hotel is Edwardian in character and this is reflected in the architecture and furnishings throughout the building.
One of the smaller, certainly more intimate of the Radisson Blu Edwardian collection, the Kenilworth follows the architecture of the group as the exterior reflects the Georgian period, famous in this part of London, with this style continuing internally and matched by a richer contemporary decor. Here this intimate style is welcoming, personal, but does not change the meeting experience into something more aligned to a 5-star or luxury proposition.
All the meeting rooms are located on the lower ground and ground floor of the hotel, away from the general public, so privacy and confidentiality can be assured to for the healthcare sector. The space lends itself well to advisory boards, speaker meetings and training, as well as being appropriate for internal meetings such as international brand team or sales meetings.
Sales and Marketing: Digital and promotional materials initially use the front entrance of the hotel to present the venue, highlighting the architecture and through that a window to an almost boutique style venue. References are made to luxury on some web pages, even a luxury designer hotel, but this will likely be considered misleading by most who visit the hotel, as they will find an architecturally appealing, intimate, and carefully styled venue not that of a luxury or 5-star venue as might be implied. The meeting facilities here are for the size of hotel substantial and meetings and event are a major focus for the hotel.
Location and Setting: The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth Hotel is a situated in a 19th Century red brick building, in the heart of Bloomsbury in central London. The Edwardian era of this building is reflected in the interior through the furnishings and the marble floors of the public areas. The large windows in the reception area create a light and airy space and, along with the marble floor and Edwardian style furnishings, give this hotel a sense of a more intimate welcome than that provided by some of its contemporaries. Due to its location, the majority of residents staying throughout the week are business travellers, however at weekends the dynamic changes to leisure visitors.
The central London location of the venue is easily accessible from all the main line train stations servicing the capital as well as London Heathrow Airport which is approximately a 40- minute drive or 15 minutes by cab from the Heathrow Express terminal at Paddington. There are several healthcare institutes close to the venue with Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine only a 15-minute walk away.
Fit for Purpose: The Radisson Edwardian, Kenilworth has retained its Edwardian characteristics throughout the building. This red brick building has an abundance of daylight throughout from the tall bay windows which creates a natural light and airy ambience. All the meeting facilities at this venue are located on the lower ground and ground floors and the ideal numbers for a residential conference are 64 when cabaret style is required. There are three distinct spaces for meetings with 8 rooms in total, which are all equipped with an LCD projector and screen and complimentary WIFI. There is a small fitness room onsite located on the lower ground floor, however this does not impact with the meeting experience. The Scoff & Banter restaurant and bar are traditional in design with the use of a muted colour scheme and velour fabrics which are complemented by the natural daylight throughout this area.
The restaurant has 90 covers and is divided into a mixture of individual tables and banquets offering the flexibility to accommodate groups for lunch and dinner. There is also a semi private dining area that can accommodate groups of 35 persons seated on a mixture of booths and tables. In our opinion this venue is appropriate for small Advisory Board and Key Opinion Leader meetings, as well as product training and all types of smaller international or domestic internal meetings where a city location is required to hold healthcare meetings, this venue in our opinion is ideally located with good public transport access.
Facilities: The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth, as with all the hotels within this brand, has greatly benefited from the financial investment the owners have made into the product. The historic character of the building has been retained throughout the public areas, bedrooms and meeting space giving the hotel a sense of calmness and elegance without opulence.
Meetings: There are 8 meeting rooms at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth and they are spread over the lower ground and ground floors of the hotel. All the meeting rooms on the lower ground have natural daylight, apart from two, however these have daylight effect lighting. Due to the layout of the lower ground floor this space is not DDA compliant (Disability Discrimination Act). All meeting rooms are equipped with a data projector and screen, with some having a small foyer area for refreshments and lunches. The meeting space on this floor can be divided into 3 separate areas. The first one holds Private Room 11 and Private Room 12. These two rooms open out into each other and combined can seat up to 64 cabaret/110 theatre style. These are the only two rooms in the hotel that do not have natural daylight but the daylight effect lighting and neutral tones gives it a sense of space. Adjacent to these rooms is a small bar area where refreshments are served from.
The second area of meetings rooms is still on the lower ground floor where there are a further two meeting rooms. Private Room 14 and 15 can both accommodate smaller meetings up to 14 boardroom style in each. Both of these rooms have natural daylight and again furnished in neutral tones and the private location of this area in the hotel is ideal for confidential meetings.
The third meeting area is on the ground floor, where there are a further four meeting rooms with Private Rooms 9 & 10 being the largest as they open into one. The maximum capacity in this space is 49 cabaret/100 theatre and has plenty of natural daylight from the large windows in the room. The other two rooms on this floor are smaller with Private Room 7 holding up to 16 boardroom style whilst Private room 8 holds up to 8 boardroom style without the use of the screen and 6 with use of the screen. Both these rooms are again bathed in plenty of natural daylight.
Due to the layout of meeting areas on both floors we feel these meeting rooms are appropriate for meetings in the Healthcare sector as it provides an intimate feel away from the public view.
Bedrooms: The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Kenilworth has a total of 186 bedrooms: 28 single rooms (15 standard and 13 superior), 75 standard doubles, 29 standard twins, 40 king deluxe, 10 Business Class and 4 suites. The décor of the bedrooms is similar for each category with mahogany furniture and neutral tones and velour fabrics whilst all the bathrooms are clad in marble. All rooms are air conditioned, designed for the business traveller and include safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, iPod docking station and hairdryer. All rooms have tea & coffee making facilities and a fully stocked mini bar however these can be emptied upon request. Complimentary bottled water is placed in each room and is restocked daily. Due to the large number of standard rooms, in our opinion the Kenilworth lends itself well to healthcare sector residential meetings.
The superior and deluxe rooms are slightly larger in size, and have additional amenities including bathrobes and slippers, with the addition of coffee machine in business class rooms and suites. These rooms can be adapted into standard rooms by removing the extra amenities making them more appropriate for healthcare meetings.
Leisure: As this hotel is primarily a venue for business it does not have any substantial leisure facilities, however there is a small fitness room onsite which is available to residential guests 24 hours a day.
Service: The service levels are consistent with a venue suitable for healthcare meetings and events. The staff to guest ratio is that of a business airport hotel and the service is warm and friendly without being that of a luxury or high end venue.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel which was consistent in strength during our visit. Secure login process is required and set up for each event – Wi-Fi is included in the day delegate package.
