Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury Street
London (1 mile away)
Healthcare Venues believes the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street aligns to the metric applied to our AMBER assessment status.
The Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury Street is an easily accessible central London hotel located on Bloomsbury Street. The closest underground tube station is Tottenham Court Road which is only a 5 minutes’ walk from the venue, as well as only being a 15 minutes’ taxi ride from London St Pancras, Eurostar, Kings Cross, Euston and Marylebone stations. Tottenham Court Road tube station is on the Charring Cross branch of the Northern Line and the Central Line which ensures easy access to most areas in London. The area of Bloomsbury in which the hotel is located, is well known for its literary connections, garden squares and numerous cultural, educational and healthcare institutions.
The hotel has 174 bedrooms and 9 meeting rooms, the largest being the Folio Suite on the Ground Floor and accommodates up to 120 cabaret/250 theatre style.
All the meeting facilities at this venue are located on the ground and lower ground floors and away from the general public, so privacy and confidentiality can be assured to the healthcare sector. It lends itself well to investigator meetings, advisory boards, speaker meetings and training, as well as being appropriate for internal meetings.
The largest room on the Lower Ground floor is Private Room 2 which accommodates up to 30 cabaret/66 theatre, with Private Rooms 3, 4 and 5 with capacities of 16 cabaret in each. Private Room 6 is the smallest room on the lower ground floor and holds 6 in a boardroom style.
As this hotel is primarily a business venue it does not have any spa facilities, however there is a small fitness room onsite and this is available to residential guests 24 hours a day.
LOCATION AND SETTING
The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street sits within an elegant 19th century red brick building and boasts a remodelled contemporary entrance to the hotel which tastefully complements the original structure. The hotel completed a full refurbishment in 2009 which transformed the venue into a contemporary hotel for leisure travellers and business meetings. Due to its location, the majority of residents staying throughout the week are business travellers, however at weekends this changes to leisure visitors.
The bar and restaurant at this venue is called the Steak & Lobster, which as the name indicates specialises in steak and lobster and offers small tapas style dishes to accompany the main offering. The restaurant offers good quality food very cost effectively and in our opinion is appropriate for the healthcare market as there are no luxury or gourmet aspects to this concept.
The hotel is easily accessible from all the main line train stations servicing the capital as well as London Heathrow Airport which is approximately a 40 – 60 minutes’ drive or 10 minutes by cab from the Heathrow Express terminal at Paddington.
Bloomsbury is home to the University of London's central bodies and departments, including the Senate House Library and School of Advanced Study, and to several of its colleges, including University College London, the Institute of Education, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of London. It is also home to the University of Law and New College of the Humanities. The numerous healthcare institutions located in Bloomsbury include the British Medical Association, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, whilst the Royal College of Physicians, The Wellcome Collection and Harley Street are a 20 minutes’ stroll away.
FIT FOR PURPOSE
All the meeting facilities at this venue are located on the ground and lower ground floors. The meeting rooms vary in size with the largest the Folio Suite accommodating up to 120 cabaret/250 theatre style.
The Bloomsbury Street Kitchen restaurant and bar are contemporary in design with bright colours and an abundance of natural daylight as they look out onto Bloomsbury Street itself. The restaurant has a capacity of 74covers and is split by a mixture of individual tables.
The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street hotel, as with all the hotels that sit in this brand has benefited from the financial investment the owners have made to the product.
Meetings: There are 9 meeting rooms in total at the Radisson Blue Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street are located on the ground and lower ground floor of the hotel, divided into two areas. The largest meeting room is the Folio Suite and this forms part of the first meeting area. This room can accommodate up to 120 cabaret/250 theatre style and has an abundance of natural daylight. This flexible meeting room divides into three: Folio 1 seats 45 cabaret, Folio 2, 24 cabaret and Folio 3 seats 24 cabaret. The neutral tones in the Folio Suite lends the space well as a meeting and learning space and all three sections are equipped with ceiling projectors and drop-down screens. The Folio Suite benefits from a large foyer area and private bar. Refreshments and buffet lunches can be served in this space. There is one further smaller meeting room on the Ground Floor, Private Room 1 which can accommodate up to 12 in a boardroom style.
The second meeting area is located on the lower ground floor and has a further 5 meeting rooms which are smaller in size and have daylight effect lighting. These rooms are in a very private area of the hotel. These meeting rooms are equipped with ceiling projectors and drop-down screens. The largest room in this area is Private Room 2 which accommodates up to 30 cabaret/66 theatre, followed by Private Rooms 3, 4 and 5 which hold a capacity of 16 cabaret in each. Private Room 6 is the smallest room on the lower ground floor and holds 6 boardroom style and is equipped with a smart TV plasma screen.
As the lower ground floor does not have a foyer area, refreshments are served in the meeting rooms whilst lunches are served in the Bloomsbury Street Kitchen restaurant. The meeting rooms on the lower ground floor have been designed as a business product with neutral tones and equipped with suitable AV facilities for all types of presentations. Due to the private nature of the lower ground floor we feel this area is appropriate for smaller healthcare meetings such as advisory boards and key opinion leader meetings, also internal meetings where a more intimate and secure environment is required.
Bedrooms: The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Bloomsbury Street has a total of 174 bedrooms: 36 standard doubles, 25 superior queen and 15 superior twins. 68 king deluxe doubles, 23 business class and 7 suites. The 7th floor houses some of the Suites and business class rooms, which are classified as being part of the Exclusive Floor. These rooms include additional amenities, such as free drinks and movies, bathrobes and flowers in the rooms. The décor is enhanced and marketed as an exclusive VIP service. We would not recommend these for meetings for HCPs for these reasons.
The décor of the standard bedrooms is similar for each category with mahogany furniture and neutral tones whilst all the bathrooms are clad in marble. All rooms are air conditioned, designed for the business traveller and include safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, iPod docking station and hairdryer. All rooms have a fully stocked mini bar however these can be emptied upon request. All rooms have tea & coffee making facilities. Complimentary bottled water is placed in each room and is restocked daily.
The superior and deluxe rooms are slightly larger in size, and have additional amenities including bathrobes and slippers, whilst business class and suites also include a coffee machine. These rooms can be adapted into standard rooms by removing the extra amenities as the only difference is the slightly larger floor space.
Leisure: Though this hotel does have a substantial position in the leisure market, it does not have any leisure facilities. There is a small fitness room onsite and this is available to residential guests 24 hours a day.
The service levels are consistent with a venue suitable for healthcare meetings and events. The staff to guest ratio is that of a business airport hotel and the service is warm and friendly without being that of a luxury or high-end venue.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel which was consistent in strength during our visit. Secure login process is required and set up for each event – Wi-Fi is included in the day delegate package.
