The Alimara Barcelona is a contemporary styled 4-star business hotel and located in the Horta district, north west of Barcelona, a residential and business district on the outskirts of the city and near to the University Hospital and University campus.
Being situated on the main B20 road that bypasses the centre of Barcelona, El Prat International Airport can be reached in 20 minutes by taxi. The Montbau Metro station is a 2-minute walk from the Montbau metro station and provides direct services into the city center and to the airport within 55 minutes.
The hotel offers a total of 14 meeting rooms that support large, medium and small meeting types with the largest room accommodating up 600 attendees.
The geography of the meeting spaces allows for multiple companies to meet at the same time in 3 different self-contained areas, providing the secure and privatised spaces required for healthcare meetings and events. The hotel has previous experience and regularly hosts healthcare meetings, conferences, trainings, advisory boards and product launches.
The hotel has a total of 156 bedrooms with 119 standard rooms, 20 Superiors and 15 Family rooms across 9 bedrooms floors.
On the first-floor level and separated from meeting and bedroom floors, the hotel offers residential guests only, complimentary access to a modest fitness suite with free weights and fitness machines. There is no sauna, steam room or pool.

The hotel’s website, professionally presented, is a realistic reflection of the hotel’s modern and contemporary business and meetings décor and facilities, which, in our opinion, aligns with a business level 4-star property, and generally considered appropriate for healthcare sector meetings and requirements.
A Google search will allow bookers to see a web page that confirms the hotels 4-star rating and provides references to the hotel’s location and consistently describes the hotel as a place for business.
The hotel does manage a Twitter and Facebook page and typically uses images and posts on this media to present a venue suitable for both business and leisure events.
LOCATION AND SETTING
The venue is a modern purpose-built brick building, situated in a residential area on the northwest side of Barcelona, a location easily accessible and one that can support International, National and regional meetings.
The physical setting of the hotel is on the main B20 road that bypasses the centre of Barcelona and it provides panoramic views across the city of Barcelona within a business complex environment.
Barcelona’s El Prat International Airport can be reached in 20 minutes by taxi, available outside the hotel, or within 55 minutes using the metro, the Montbau Metro station is a 2-minute walk away. The station also provides direct services into the city center and Sants Central Station.
The Hospital Vall d’Hebron, the city’s most important health center, along with the University of Barcelona for Psychology, is also within a short walk away.
FIT FOR PURPOSE
The venue positions itself as a functional, comfortable yet appropriately stylish business hotel serving corporate clients as well as the transient traveller.
It offers meeting organizers advanced technology, environmental efficiency and a naturally light space that support business, education and interaction.
The meeting rooms are designed to provide flexibility of meetings sizes and, when required, can be set up into a plenary and breakout combinations. The bedrooms are modern and comfortable in design and there is a mix of restaurant facilities with the main restaurant offering a good variety of food and beverage without touches that would suggest a more luxurious venue.
With an out of city location, no entertainment facilities to distract delegates, the hotel is popular with, and already supports internal and external healthcare meetings including conferences, trainings, advisory boards and product launches.
Entering the hotel is the main reception and lobby, that leads to the garden and conference area. In front of the reception, at the other side of the lobby, there is La Ronda Restaurant, the location where guests take a Mediterranean breakfast buffet.
Next to the garden, the Summum Restaurant & Coffee Shop is where guests and meeting delegates can take a business lunch or dinner;
Meetings: There is a total of 14 rooms that allow for the organisation of large, medium and small meeting types.
The largest room, situated at the right side of the garden, can accommodate up 600 attendees.
On the left side of the garden there is another with no column and natural daylight meeting room that can be set up theatre style for 400 attendees.
Inside the hotel there are breakout rooms ranging several sizes. Some of them are located by the garden and lobby floor and others are at the mezzanine floor.
All meeting and breakout rooms have built-in Audio-Visual equipment and catering can be provided in all rooms. The garden can be used for an external space suitable for stand-up tea/coffee breaks or finger buffets.
There is a dedicated meetings and events support desk.
Bedrooms: The hotel has a total of 156 bedrooms located across 9 floors.
Standard rooms are normally allocated to healthcare meetings and events, to align to company policies, and are designed with business travellers in mind.
Each room comes with Wi-Fi included, LCD multi language TV, tea and coffee making facilities, business desk, safe box, a chargeable mini bar, shower and bath with all necessary bathroom toiletries. Even though the mini bar is generally stocked, this can be emptied if required.
Other standards of room, including some superior and junior suites, can be reserved but not all of them would be considered appropriate for healthcare groups. In our opinion, although more of an executive level, these rooms may be perceived as luxury, and unless they are to be allocated to internal staff, these rooms would not be used for healthcare meetings where HCPs are attending.
Leisure: On the first-floor level and separated from meeting and bedroom floors, the hotel offers guests (no external membership) a modest fitness suite with free weights and fitness machines. There is no sauna, steam room or pool. Leisure facilities are not included in any proposal for meetings and events that involve external HCPs.
There is no sign that the venue attempts to use service and a guest to staff ratio to leverage luxury impressions. The meetings desk located in the reception area is a proactive step to meet, greet and support conference organisers and attendees. The service levels are deemed to be consistent with a venue suitable for healthcare meetings.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel but for higher speeds and a dedicated and secure line, this must be pre-arranged.
